Visit of the Arab Scientific Association for Transport
9th March: Admiral Ahmed Aly Fadel, Chairman, of the Suez Canal Authority, received, at the SCA Maritime Training and Simulation Center in Ismailia, a delegation from the Arab Scientific Association for Transport, headed by Dr. Saad Ashmawy director of the Association.
During the meeting, Admiral Fadel briefed the guests on the importance of the Suez Canal as an international waterway, and he elaborated the great progress which the Suez Canal achieved especially in the field of technology, to cope with the global development in the maritime transport and in means of communications, including the Tetra system, which services as public safety and security network, to ensure the secrecy of communication in the Suez Canal, besides the construction of a new Complex of Simulators, in addition to signing a number of Memorandums of understanding (MOU) with the most important ports in the east cost of U.S.A., such as the “ Memo of understanding “ which was recently signed with port of Georgia on the 10th of February 2010, with a view of enhancing the sea borne trade between ports of the east of Asia and ports of the east coast of the U.S.A. through the Suez Canal.
The visit programme included a visit to the SCA control office in the Pilotage Building and a sea tour down the Canal.
At the end of the visit, Dr. Saad Al Ashmawy head of the delegation expressed his deepest appreciation for the SCA’s hospitality and he praised the highly updating technology used by the Suez Canal.
