DP WORLD SIGNS CARBON EMISSIONS PARTNERSHIP
- Agreement on eve of World Environment Day heralds 22% cut in container carbon emissions worldwide and 42% in UAE Region operations since 2008

On the eve ofWorld Environment Day, global marine terminal operator DP World has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (DCCE) to review its operations in the region.
The initial phase of the five year agreement will see DCCE review DP World practices, explore and identify energy reduction opportunities to implement in line with international standards. Agreed projects will have the potential to be applied across DP World’s global network.
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy witnessed the signature of the MoU that was signed in DP World Headquarters in Dubai, attended by His Excellency Ahmed Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Energy, His Excellency Jamal Majid bin Thaniah, Vice Chairman of DP World and Mohammed Sharaf, DP World Group CEO. The MoU was signed by His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World and Waleed Salman, Chairman of Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence.
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, said:
“The commitment DP World is showing towards low-carbon development proves the evolution of Dubai’s industry. We have seen many framework agreements being signed and strategies being developed with the Dubai Carbon Centre and we are hoping that all of Dubai’s major entities follow DP World’s example in line with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.”
His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem,Chairman of DP World, said:

Evidence of that is the 22% reduction in carbon emissions per box move across global operations since 2008 and a 42% reduction per box move in our UAE region in the same period.

The expertise of DCCE in this field will help us implement projects that not only will help lower carbon emissions but also save energy with benefits to our business, stakeholders and our communities.”

The DCCE is a leading consultant on sustainability, energy efficiency and carbon reduction in the UAE. It specializes in the design and incubation of greenhouse gas reduction measures. Services include emission reduction certification, carbon enhanced energy saving and performance contracting; carbon abatement strategies, green finance and investment.
